What’s your favorite color?
Amber (duh!)… that encompasses yellow, orange, cocoa, sepia, gold, et al.
What are your 3 favorite accessories and why?
- an orange cashmere travel wrap by White+Warren. It’s uber-soft, warm and toasty, adds a splash of color to any chilly day, and it makes a wonderful scarf, too.
- a crimson leather duffle I had made at a small tannery in New York. It’s an ideal carry-on and great for long weekends. Plus, I can always recognize my luggage in the crowd!
- a golden leather piece that works as both a choker and a bracelet. It’s by an Israeli designer called Braker and looks like rows of 18K gold bracelets or necklaces without the weight or excess noise produced by metal.
What is the one accessory you can’t live without?
The handbag – hands down! There are pictures of me at age 2 on the beach in Jamaica with a purse dangling from my shoulder. I asked for a briefcase for Christmas when I was 5. I still have the first Coach handbag I received as a gift from my grandmother in sixth grade. As an adult, I’ve indulged and find myself in awe of the casual patrician looks of Tod’s, the neo-classics designed by Marc Jacobs, and the funky options offered by Miu Miu. This is clearly a fetish! My current favorite is my chocolate Marc Jacobs bowler. It’s a “go to” bag that works under many circumstances – work, travel or casual. The leather is dark enough to work with black, brown and navy attire and the hardware is amazingly understated
What’s your style inspiration?
The women’s attire in the film Eve’s Bayou changed my life. Debbi Morgan and Lynn Whitfield wore my dream wardrobe. Each piece was so feminine, so detailed and flattered their bodies exquisitely.
What do you splurge on?
I’ve absolutely no qualms investing in flawlessly constructed classics made using fine materials. Quality over quantity any day!
What is your favorite gift to give?
I love to give something someone has admired in my presence. I try to keep my ears open!
What are you currently obsessed with?
- Cowboy boots – they make any outfit FIERCE!
- BlackBerry – don’t leave home without it!
- OPI nail lacquer – witty names and daring shades!
