What’s your favorite color?
It’s a tie between champagne and purple- my old bedroom in D.C. was this combo and it was so me, perfect zen. The walls were a regal violet and my comforter was a golden champagne. I love rich colors. In terms of getting dressed, nothing makes me feel sassier than wearing magenta. My closet is verrrrrry magenta. I currently have 3 magenta sundresses, (one strapless, one tank, one assymetrical one shoulder) and then 2 sundresses that are black w. magenta patterns. I stick with what I love.
*also, after writing about my magenta dresses, I came home looked into my closet and I realized I had 2 additional magenta pattern dresses (one striped, one puckered strapless) and one additional solid (3/4 sleeve). bringing the total up to 8…. see one of the many in my attached photo
What are your 3 favorite accessories and why?
Right now my three favorite accessories are gold hoop earrings, my iPhone and my oversize kiss lock yellow clutch bag. I love a thin gold hoop in the summer time. My iPhone is my world. I love the ease of communication, access to information and most importantly my MUSIC! I feel it’s necessary to have a personal soundtrack going at all times. The yellow clutch bag draws a lot of attention-I’ve had it for 3 summers and without fail everyone always comments on it’s “big balls”. It has a massive oversize kiss lock so people go for the obvious joke. That being said, it’s big enough for my digital camera, iPhone and wallet when I head out on summer nights. Plus, I think yellow is the perfect accessory color.
What is the one accessory you can’t live without?
My Cranberry Kiehls Lip balm. I was an Aquaphor girl for quite some time but then I was introduced to Kiehls Cranberry. It’s perfect because it has the moisture of petroleum but it doesn’t have that medicine aura.
What’s your style inspiration?
Ms. Beyonce Knowles is my style inspiration. The big earrings obsession can be fully credited to her. I admire her choices in color and silhouette. Sure she makes some mistakes- but most of the time she is someone whose style I envy. Have you seen her tour costumes? She’s SUCH a super hero. One of my other style inspirations is Penny from Dirty Dancing. In all seriousness, I have always loved her teensy belts, t-strap shoes and cha-cha inspired style. Beyonce and Penny collide in their ownership of the leotard. Jaci in a Unitard? One day- coming to a costume party near you…
What do you splurge on?
I love splurging on technology, my iPhone and digital camera were two big gifts. But once I start making the big bucks I plan to really splurge on bags. I love love love handbags. The Marc Jacobs Stam will be my first big splurge. The price tag deems that I should get it in a reasonable color- but I really love it in Magenta from a 2008 Collection. I recently bid on it at a Charity Event. When I realized it was part of the auction, I was immediately tempted- bidding started at $300! When I finally gave in, I had to put down $500. It was very similar to Dana’s Louboutin situation except I didn’t exercise self control. Luckily I was outbid…and able to pay my bills that month.
It’ll happen when the time is right.
What is your favorite gift to give?
My favorite gifts to give are the ones that aren’t bought because “I need to find a gift” I’m always shopping and I always have the people I love in mind. When I see something that’s so THEM I take note of it, my Gmail has a label devoted to “shopping”, I’ll e-mail myself ideas so that I don’t forget. Generally speaking though, I think books are great gifts especially when personal notes are written inside- I get that from my Mom. I’ve recently given The Tao of Poo and The Last Lecture as gifts. I also think that when in doubt- a magazine subscription is a good way to go. It’s a gift that gives for 12 months and a monthly reminder of me. That’s the best of both worlds, isn’t it?
What are you currently obsessed with?
- Dresses (this is pretty obvious from my magenta dress confession) I refuse to wear pants in the summer time, I think dresses are ladylike and playful. I’m a minimalist to a certain degree; I like to wake up, put one thing on and head out the door. My childhood babysitter still calls me the “Low Maintenance Child”.
- This necklace that I bought at World Market the last time I was in D.C.- I miss World Market SO much. I love to wear beaded jewelry in the summer time.
- Finding the perfect watch. I know I want it to be gold…but the rest is TBD, help me out here
