Friday’s Fabulousness | My Father

by DWJ on June 18, 2010 · 5 comments

Anne's Birthday 001It is Friday! And I have to say I am super pumped about this weekend, because it is Father’s Day. Obviously, my Dad is my fabulousness for the week and this weekend is all about him.

I am a very lucky person, I have been raised in a loving family with two parents and two sisters that mean the world to me. Not everyone gets the chance to feel loved like I do every single day and I know that not everyone gets to have a father like mine. My Dad is always ready with an endless supply of hugs, kisses and encouragement. I think he is my biggest cheerleader and has always hoped and dreamed of the best things for me. He always believes in me even when I doubt myself, he’s a great parent.

For those of you who read this blog religiously you may remember a post I wrote in January about a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, it was the day my Dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and it was the worst day of my life. I didn’t write that then because it was too hard to swallow or really say out loud. It made it very real. It’s still hard to talk about today, but on that horrible day I decided that every day after was going to be better than that day.

And they have been.

About a week after that post my Dad had a major life saving surgery that removed the cancer/tumor from him and he’s currently going through chemotherapy to help remove any traces of cancer that might be in his system. He is part of a very small percentage of people who were diagnosed early and were able to have surgery. Every single day since January 5th has been a better day even if it is just because it has been one more day with my Dad and I know that there will be a lot more days with him in the future.

This weekend my family, our friends and my Dad will be walking in the PurpleStride 5k for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. I’m happy to be able to walk in support of my Dad, I’m happy to have another weekend, another Father’s Day with the best Dad in the world. We started off with a small goal and our team has raised over $3,000 in support of Pancreatic cancer research, absolutely amazing!

I am lucky to have my father in my life. I love him more than green jelly beans (my favorite) and couldn’t imagine spending this weekend any other way. This might be the best Father’s Day we’ve ever celebrated.

Happy Father’s day to all the great Dads out there! I love you, Dad!
