Today I’m talking about how I wear shorts to work. I know it’s debatable depending on where you work but again, my office is fairly casual and I think I pulled it off. I also got a lot of compliments on this outfit when I wore it last week, which surprised me. Even the husband told me I looked “super cute” when I came down the stairs and getting an unsolicited compliment out of him sometimes is like pulling teeth.
I think the key to wearing shorts in a casual work environment is that they are Bermuda shorts and that they hit you at the knee and not mid thigh like something you’d wear to the beach or on the weekends. You probably remember these shorts from the Backyard BBQ outfit post, I love them and wish I had them in a full length pant as well. I didn’t want to wear pants (too hot) and was over skirts and dresses on Friday so I decided on shorts. To up the style factor I added a pretty tie front blouse I picked up at the Loft when I went to King of Prussia mall in May. I think I paid $7 for this shirt and I probably should’ve bought it in a medium but you live and you learn. It does get a bit wrinkled but I still love it. Since it’s sleeveless and a little big on me at the arms I paired it with a cropped sleeve grey cardigan. Plus my office is chilly!
To top it off with accessories I added my Coach clogs I’ve had for years, they’re denim (casual Friday!) and a new LeSportsac bag that’s coming this month (it’s the Daphne Shoulder bag and it’s HUGE, a separate post on that will come soon). Since my outfit is fairly neutral with blues and greys and I just threw on my J Crew bangle for a bit of pattern.
So would you be comfortable wearing shorts like this to work?

I would definitely wear shorts like these to work on a Thursday or a Friday. I think they are appropriate because, like you said, they are Bermudas. They are not short at all and the wide leg fit makes it more conservative for the workplace. Some folks get confused when they hear “shorts” and immediately think of hot pants or cargos, which are highly inappropriate.
