I love hats but as I’ve said before I suffer from domius maximus (large head syndrome). So typically when I buy hats they’re knit and slouchy so they have lots of give for my noggin. This month, my friends at Shop Suey Boutique sent over the Abby Beanie for me to review.

I kind of love this hat. I really do. It’s the perfect bit of slouchy, it has a pom pom for the kid in me AND it has sparkle! My sister kept asking me to wear my sparkly hat after she saw it the first time. I’m glad my hat can bring a bit of joy and sparkle to her world. It’s the little things.
 I made the mistake of leaving it on the backseat of my car when I picked up my 19 year old cousin the other day…she tried to roll back into her dorm with it on. LOL I quickly realized she was trying to jack me for my sparkle and politely asked for it back. Today I head up a big meeting that I have to do quarterly and I realize I usually wear 1. a dress and 2. something sparkly when I want to look my best. I thought this would be a perfect time to test out my latest Shop Suey Society piece, the Anne necklace. Unfortunately, the Anne has been selling out like crazy but the Vickie is like her more color sister and Ariel is like her more eclectic sister. I love the sparkle and shine, it’s really beautiful in person. It makes me smile with all the sparkle.

I decided to wear some bold color today for my meeting. You’ve previously seen me in this lovely orange faux wrap dress from Target. When I was reading the blog Making it Lovely, she mentioned a similar shaped dressed but in longer sleevesand I immediately scooped it up. For $29 at Target I figured why not add another dress to my fall wardrobe in a citrus shade. I had intentions of wearing this dress with deep teal tights but when I got up this morning I had pink and yellow on the brain, so vividly bright pink tights it was! I also thought they’d pair really well with these super cute two toned oxford heels I bought at TJ Maxx the other day for $40 (which is still less than their current sale price at Nine West. The entire outfit really is a budget bargain of colorful goodness – LOVE IT!

I am DRAGGING this AM. I think I’ve yawned a million times and I had to get a medium coffee with caffeine – both are rare for me. Clearly, my weekend was filled with good things.

The first good thing was that on Friday, the November issue of Washingtonian Magazine hit newstands and yours truly is on page 177 talking about my favorite tech accessories, my Timbuk2 bag and my LeSportac backpack. Both bags keep my organized and allow me to carry all my technology with me every week. If you’re in the DC area pick it up and check me out. My girl, Erin Jackson also has a lovely full page image and article about her first time doing stand-up comedy.

The other good things are that I saw lots of friends this weekend. Jess came down from NYC this weekend and we had delicious food and did some shopping for her new apartment. I also met up with friends that have the cutest kids I’ve seen in a long time and we got to catch up. I love it when you get to spend time with great friends and family over really great food.

I got an email this week about a fun way to give to a charity. The Board of Visitors, an auxiliary board at Children’s National Medical Center, annually hosts the Care for Kids Card program – you spend $50 for a card and you get 20% off of your purchases at local DC area stores. The $50 you spend on the card goes towards the Children’s National Media Center and you get 20% off at all of these stores.

That’s a pretty thick booklet of stores and not a bad deal, especially with the holidays around the corner. The promotion starts today (if you go to the merchant list it will show you all the stores that sell cards in store as well, so you don’t have to wait to get it online. I definitely thought this was a cute way to be charitable and save a few dollars so I had to share it with you guys.
