We’re in the midst of a heatwave here in DC. I’m not complaining. I’ll take the high temperatures over blizzards everyday. A little sweat never hurt anyone. Since the temps are super high, all I can think about is comfort when I’m getting dressed everyday. Loose fitting, light colored clothing and sandals or shoes in lightweight fabrics. I’m actually currently lusting over picking up the Keds Champion Shabby Chic Cutie (picture above) or the Keds Champion Jute Slip On (below).

I do like my toes to be out when the heat is on (who doesn’t want to show off a fantastic pedicure?) but sometimes I want my feet covered but still want to wear a cute and lightweight shoe. I think these would be perfect weekend wear slip ons or great as a commuter option for the work week – I hate seeing dirty flip flops paired with summer dresses. I can already see myself wearing either pair with a white scoop neck t-shirt, my khaki shorts and an arm full of colorful bracelets. You don’t need much to be cute when it’s hot out.

Lately when I make purchases I’m trying to buy clothes and accessories help build up my work wardrobe. I mean, those are the clothes I wear 80% of the time so that’s where most of my focus goes. Of course as the weather gets warmer, I’m distracted and caught up in the fun and wilder items that I probably wouldn’t wear in my more conservative office.

The Aldo Sobeslava wedges are at the top of the not practical for work but still incredibly fly kind of shoe I want to buy. I’ve been craving a tribal print piece or over the top wedge and these just might be it. I just don’t know if I really need them enough to make the purchase, so I’ll keep thinking about it.

What’s your favorite kind of piece to splurge on?

Over the weekend I celebrated a girlfriend’s big birthday and today another close girlfriend celebrates her birthday as well. It’s so funny because a lot of people hate Valentine’s day but having a girlfriend who is literally a cupid baby makes it such a wonderful day to celebrate. It isn’t always about being in love but about showing those you love (family and friends) how much you care.

So of course for the last week everyone has been asking what I was going to do with my husband for Valentine’s day or what I wanted…

I’m not very romantic, I’m more silly. I think roses are pretty but the smell makes me a bit nauseous and they make me sneeze. If you buy me a box of chocolates I’m pretty much only going to eat the one with caramel filling and give the rest away – I know I’m a difficult Valentine.

So what would I want?

• Things like makeup (doesn’t that BE kit look better than a box of chocolates?), a nice palette would be fun.
• Shoes! I’m still waiting for my Converse to arrive so I’m be oh so delighted when they get here.
• A red Swatch, Swatches are my favorites, and my mother used to always send me a red Swatch on Valentine’s Day.
• A trip to Red Door Spa for a hot stone massage. I just feel more relaxed saying that.

What does my husband want?

• Anything electronic. We’re currently pricing out 60 inch TVs for his man cave. Goodness gracious.
• Anything sports related. Anything.
• Time with just me. Sometimes I feel like my days are never ending and I have such limited time on my hands so it’s always nice to get a moment to snuggle up on the couch with my hubby and spend some time together.

Maybe it’s because I was listening to Jill Scott last night but I’ve got “It’s Love” stuck in my head when I think about these Marc by Marc Jacobs 606850 Ankle Boot. I normally don’t blog about very high end pieces or things that go over $150 because they aren’t very realistic for my life or budget, but damn I’m in love with this boots.

I saw these while I was in Bloomingdales a few weeks ago, I was waiting for my cousin so we could see Eat Pray Love and I always end up in the shoe department of a store. These boots called my name, so I tried them on and that was probably my first mistake because now I can’t stop thinking about them.

I think I love them because they blend a chukka boot with clog details and they blend them so beautifully. It has a wood tone synthetic sole with a bit of rubber grip on the bottom that makes them super comfortable and the upper leather is so deliciously soft. Have I mentioned that I love them?

I used to have a pair of chukka boots with a heel in high school and in college, so it’s a trend that I love making another comeback. You can wear these with jeans or pair them with tights and a dress/skirt. Barneys even has them in bronze! A bit more bold than in black but still just as gorgeous.

The only thing I don’t love about them is the price, $400. So I will drool and lovingly look at them online wishing they could be mine (tear).

So to help make me feel better, please tell me about something you want but that’s too far out of your price range. Please tell me I’m not crazy.

There is no secret about my love of clogs. I’ve talked about it a lot here but I have failed to take picture of myself with my clogs on – I just haven’t had time! Today is my day off and I am spending it getting both of my cars serviced, maybe I’ll have some time in the afternoon to take pictures…maybe.

Back to what I want.

Even though there are tons of trendy clogs and super high styles, I have been gravitating towards simple styles that are timeless. Swedish Hasbeens in the Peep Toe Sky High are perfectly simple and adorable. I’m definitely in love with the turquoise and I’m a little smitten with them in yellow.

The shape is simple and classic. It doesn’t need a ton of bows and studs, the classic shape is enough. The great colors are what make it so fun and fresh and perfect for summer. I want to wear them with shorts, jeans and every single dress I own. I want them but their price is making me add them to my wish list. I’m also kind of loving the T-Straps too, I just wish they were in more colors!
