Translating the Trends is a four part series created by Jessica from Design Wonderland and myself with the hopes of helping our readers with their fall shopping. We’re going to tackle four trends: Ruffles, Gray, Pops of Color and Metallics with posts that show you how to incorporate these trends through accessories or interior styling. For Jessica’s interior styling tips using pops of color go to Design Wonderland and to see how I take the inspiration below and translate it, click more.
There are so many ways to show off great pops of color but we’re going to focus on two great bold shades: Pink and Purple. A lot of times people are terrified of wearing bold color, so why not introduce it in small doses through your accessories? It’s an easy way to update what you already own and it will help you ease yourself into a bolder color palette.
Beauty is possibly the easiest way to incorporate color into your wardrobe through your makeup! I love a gorgeous purple eyeshadow or a great hot pink lip. There are also a lot of wearable lavender and purple lipsticks coming out right now to go with the trend. In terms of beauty, I suggest the following:
Nars Lip Lacquer in Hot Wire is a fiery pink that’s in between a gloss and a lipstick. The color isn’t too sheer and not too heavy (although the Nars lacquers are slightly sticky on the lips). This will give you a great bold lip statement, so keep the rest of your makeup fairly neutral and nude.
Bare Escentuals Buxom Big & Health Lip Stick in Montreal has a precision point of a lip liner combined with the power of an opaque lipstick in a fabulously flattering shade of hot pink. What more could you ask for?
Sephora’s double ended makeup bushes can add a bit of pop to your morning beauty routine. I love the vibrant color! You might not be bold enough for the makeup but why not punch up your beauty routine?
Makeover Forever Aqua Liner comes in three shades of purple! Plum, Black Purple and Purple. Like grey, it’s a great alternative from black eye liner than can sometimes appear a bit hear. Plus, this liner doubles as an eye shadow! I love a great 2-in-1 product.
Feeling bold? Then Stila’s Barbie Loves Stila Smudge Pot in Purple Pumps might be your best accessory! This bold purple shadow isn’t too blue or too red, so it’s the most universally flattering purple and with just a hint of shimmer it will be fun and fresh.
I love adding a pop of color through watches. Toy Watches can be mixed and matched, so why not mix your pinks and purples together? So chic and fun.
Tired of wearing black or grey? Add purple or pink opaque tights to your outfit to add a bit of color, texture and warmth.
Or go with a pop of color on your feet. I love black tights and colorful shoes like the Steve Madden Tyeller. It helps balance out the big bold statement that you might be making with your clothes or shoes. These boots are adorable and a perfect way to embrace the trend without spending an arm and a leg on a new wardrobe.
Adding bursts of color adds interest and whimsy to your classic look. A shock of pink can liven up khaki and a rich purple can be sexier than you expect. Don’t be afraid to experiment – try something so that you can figure out if you like it!
