Today I wanted to talk about a few things on this blog. Kind of a state of the union for the Art of Accessories if you will but don’t worry, I’m not quitting. I’m just redefining and upgrading a few things.
I read a lot of blogs, I am exposed to other bloggers via Twitter and I network locally. I think in the now almost 2 years since I’ve had my blog, I’ve accomplished so much more than I ever imagined when I started this project for class. This blog started off with an audience mainly of my friends and family and now that has branched out to people I’ve never met but I feel like are my friends from your comments, emails and tweets. I have to admit, I love this cyberworld of blogging and the people I’ve met and the wonderful and exciting opportunities that have been extended to me because of this blog. I write every day Monday through Friday because this truly makes me happy. I get a chance to do something creative everyday and if it helps you define your style or upgrade your makeup then I’m happy. I’m honored that you trust my opinion and that you read every day.
Recently the FTC introduced blogging regulations (you can read the full text here via Media Bistro) and really, what they want is for bloggers to have full disclosure on where products come from so readers get honest reviews. In the beginning, everything I blogged about was something I found, bought or lusted after. Now that I’ve grown PR folks email me and occasionally send me items to review, but I’ve always felt that I’ve been honest about that from the beginning. So really, nothing is going to change on my blog. I may (in order to make it clearer for FTC) add a line at the end of each post that says whether or not the product was given to me, if I sampled it, bought it or found it on the web. I haven’t decided yet, but I hope that you all know whether it was a gift or not, this blog has ALWAYS been about my honest opinion.
A lot of bloggers have been up in arms and are upset with the FTC rulings or blame it on bloggers who are in it for the free stuff. I know there are always going to be a few folks who can ruin it for others, but I’m not mad at anyone because all I can be concerned about is what I’m doing and how I present myself and my blog to the world. Isn’t that really all I can do?
In the next week or so I plan on upgrading the site design – this will mainly happen on the weekends so if you come to the site and it’s a bit funky I apologize. I promise to have it functional Monday through Friday, I just use my weekends to tweak the design a bit. You’ll see a new layout, possibly new logos and I’m working on new features for the future. I’m also trying to take more photographs so there may be a gallery at some point. Also, I want to know what you, my beloved readers want to see. Please take a few minutes of your time to fill out my survey! because it will help drive the type of content that you see on this website. And by completing this survey it will enter you for a special prize (I’ve got a prize or two I can share with 1 lucky reader). The survey will be available until early November and I’ll do another post with just the survey in it. A lot of what I write about comes from questions and comments that you all leave, so I want to make sure there is a strong reader focus for the future.
That’s my rant. Thanks for listening.
