Despite taking a week off from the 2010 Beauty Challenge due to being snowed in and not wearing any makeup (and now because I have a cold and a peeling sore nose), I still have to talk about beauty. I wanted to talk about one of my favorite things, false eyelashes!
I’ve talked about lashes before on the blog, and my most outrageous pair came with the inauguration and my wild swooping blue Obamalicious lashes but false lashes can be a great way to add a bit of oomph to your beauty routine and they don’t have to be as extreme as a pair of blue lashes.
The pair I’m wearing above are from Ardell Lashes (I got them as part of a prize pack I won on Twitter) and they’re slightly full on the ends and added more volume to my lashes. Where was I wearing them? To my cousins house for a night of games and fun with friends. I figured, why not? My makeup was fairly simple, just black eyeliner and I did a bolder orange/red lip.
What makes false lashes intimidating is that they seem really difficult to apply but with a little bit of practice, you can apply them like a pro. My tips are to keep your hands steady (try propping your elbow up on your counter), have a magnified mirror to make it easier for you to see, apply them as close as you can to your lash line, and apply them slowly. The first time I ever applied lashes I’m pretty sure I had hem half way up my eyelid, but I kept trying until I got it right.
Ardell lashes are great because they have such a wide range of styles from individual to fairly full and dramatic lashes. You can buy them online and at most major drugstores. They’re an inexpensive way to add some extra impact to your beauty routine. I’m not big on false lashes for day but I could see adding a few individual lashes to an everyday look. Really, I like these because they turned up the volume on my makeup for the night. They added a bit of flirtatiousness to my look.
If you’re going to wear lashes you’ll want to do a look with a bit of eyeliner because the strip of lashes will already appear to look like liner, so why not emphasize it? Play with them, have some fun! My next experiment will be with individual lashes, exciting!
