How To Accessorize | Day to Night

daytonightdaytonight1So I’m 2 for 2 now with doing an outfit post every week, YAY! It’s a bit awkward and time consuming to take pictures of yourself, it really is. Trying to pose in a way that I don’t look silly takes a bit of time and finess! But I’ve actually taken a couple of photos in the last 10 days so you may see more than 1 outfit post from me this week. So today I’m talking about accessorizing day to night. I went to a networking event last week that was all female. It’s always nice to see other positive women, especially women of color get together. So I wanted something that said I was cute and fun but I was not changing my clothes after work. Instead, I was just going to upgrade my accessories.

I was in Target the other day and they had this Mossimo skirt for $5 off and I loved how it has overlapping petals of fabric and I loved the green and turquoise and thick elastic band at the top. I decided to pair it with a simple scoop neck black tee and grey ballet flats for day. I added a necklace I made from blue tiger’s eye (I’m in love with the Potomac Bead Co.) and the LeSportsac EveryGirl tote in Marine Pin Dot (bag courtesy of LeSportsac) along with my aviator shades I snagged from Loft. I simple outfit that I bought from Target, love it!

I live in skirts all summer long, they’re easy and always look put together. Plus that day was HOOOOOOOT! DC skipped spring and went from winter to August humidity and heat. I probably should’ve worn a white tee.

For evening I decided I need to add a bit more glam to the ensemble. I love the long silver multi-strand necklace I picked up at the W Hotel store last year in NY. It is braided on one side and has several strands that are all twisted together, very rocker chic and cool. To play with the color in the skirt I paired a green turquoise cocktail ring my parents gave me for my birthday a few years ago. I love how big it is and the great shade of green, it makes me smile every time I put it on.

Since it’s summer I think it’s mandatory to have my toes out, it’s only right. So I slipped on a pair of Franco Sarto peep toes in navy blue suede and patent leather clocks. They have a heel that’s a cross between a wedge and a stacked heel but they’re pretty comfy to stand around in all night. I needed to downsize my bag, so I went from a LeSportsac tote to their very nifty Tristlets (also courtesy of LeSportsac)! If you’ve ever thought a single writstlet wasn’t enough, this will solve that issue for you. Three different sized pouches that you can clip on or off of a wrist strap. Loved the metallic turquoise and platinum shades.

The Tristlets let me separate my phone and business cards from my makeup and tissues (I had to blot because again it was HOOOOOOOOOT!). Since it was so humid, my makeup was fairly simple, I wore a bit of green eye shadow but I really didn’t want to feel like I or my makeup was melting. When it’s humid, I want a pretty bare face and gloss.

As an added bonus, I wanted to share with you what my girl Jess from Design Wonderland was wearing too!

She had on the cutest Rachel Roy dress, lavender peep toe heels, a burnt sienna colored satchel and the most perfect vintage inspired shades from Fossil! I love the rouching on the side of the dress, it hugs her in all the right places and is a great length on her since she has such long legs.

So did we do alright for a night out after work? How do you go from day to night?

don't be tardy for the party

  1. I love your outfit and how you broke it down well enought for me to understand…It’s so helpful to come to your blog and get inspiration on creating outfits for myself (it also give me confidence to be more daring in my outfit choices.) I always take something away from every blog post!

  3. Fab.u.lous. You ladies look comfortable and totally put together. Skirts always keep me summer ready, and I live in sandals and peeptoes during this time of year. So, it’s important to be pedicure ready!
