Creative Juices

On Instagram (I’m theaofa there) I share little snapshots of my life in progress. A crafty project here a new shoe purchase there. It’s all kind of fun and a cool way to share but I still like to share bigger items or go deeper into the pictures on the blog. This weekend was pretty low key but on Saturday I spent a little time at a yarn sidewalk sale and picked up a few skeins of some yarn that I love and at a great price. I’ve been knitting a few baby blankets as gifts and then blocking out designs for baby blankets for an Etsy shop and then making scarves for fall for an Etsy shop too.
I learned how to knit last year and really fell in love with it. It’s soothing to do but it also stokes my creative fire. I love creating things with my hands and I’m a way better knitter than I am a sewer. And by giving lots of items as gifts, it turned out to be great free advertising and marketing. I’ve been asked if I would sell a blanket or a scarf and I’ve now gotten to the point where I’m willing to say yes, I would!
So this weekend I picked up a few skeins of new yarn that I hope will become something beautiful. And I’m such a knitting junkie that my husband suggested I wind my own yarn at home instead of trying to wait in line to do it at the store. We found a great wooden swifter for half price and a ball winder on sale too!
Someone asked me what I’d do if I didn’t have to work a full time job. I’d create things every single day if I could. I try to create some kind of art on a daily basis whether I knit a little bit, photograph something or even sketch. I think creativity is what feeds my soul. So maybe this is a step in the right direction, knitting a few things and seeing if they sell, creating special gifts made with love for people I love and being creative every single day. That’s not a bad way to live my life. What do you love to do?

  1. We have the same interests. If I didn’t have a full-time job, or even if I had a part-time one, I’d knit, crochet, sew, cook, cross-stitch decorate, make body portions and bake cupcakes or scones that I’ll serve with tea. For now, I have to make do with doing that stuff on the weekend or when I take vacation! πŸ™‚

I agree with your hubby, I learned a long time ago that I was too much of a fibre junkie to not have a swift and ball-winder at home. πŸ˜€

Great yarn purchases. Can’t wait to see what you do with them!

  2. Gosh, you pick beautiful colors and do such great color combos. I wish I was as crafty but I’m excited that you mentioned opening an Etsy shop. I’d definitely check it out!
