Today’s post can be found on We Heart This, where I blog monthly about fashion and accessories. I’ve translated a very bright runway look to make it work for you and it won’t break your budget!
I have always considered myself an artist. I sketch, sometimes I paint, I take pictures, I design, I like to be in a creative mood and space all the time. I’ve been like that forever, always drawing and painting on anything I could get hands on when I was little (sorry, Mom for carving my name in that end table…).
My house is colorful and by no means ordinary and the walls are covered in artwork and color and I’m always searching for more. I couldn’t see it being any other way. Color energizes me and revives my creative spirit.
Lately I’ve been in this in between state, not knowing what I want to do next. Do I want to take pictures, what should I photograph? What should I draw? What should I blog about? Well, Pinterest has become such a source of inspiration and excitement for me. I love pinning items that I see and love (and I sometimes use that as a way to tag items to talk about on the blog later) and I love discovering someone new or a new site I’ve never heard of before. Plus I love all of the color and creativity that other folks share, it’s such a unique concept!
So do you Pinterest? And if not, where do you pull for sources of inspiration?
Today I’m highlighting the Lacey Shoulder Bag from Shop Suey Boutique. Mine is orange but currently they have the pink and light purple available on their site. This month when they asked me what I wanted to review I knew I wanted something with color because I rarely carry a black handbag unless it has some special detail on it.
The Lacey is bigger than what I thought it was going to be but that makes me even happier. I tried to tell myself last month that I was going to go for smaller shoulder bags, but who am I kidding? I carry my life around with me and I successfully carried my iPad, makeup case, camera, 2 sets of glasses and my latest knitting project in this bag and still had room for more. Seriously.
I’ve also been pairing this orange with pretty much any and everything in my wardrobe. I love wearing it with blue, such a great contrasting color. But it also works nicely against green and with orange and red too. Color really can perk up any outfit and orange is definitely a color that can add a bit of fun to your wardrobe.
For absolutely no reason at all, I’m in a wonderful mood this Friday. I love days like this, when the weather is nice and my mood is sky high. I decided on the way into work this morning since I was driving in by myself that I would drive with the windows down and the A/C on blasting Childish Gambino.
If you haven’t heard of Childish Gambino but you’re a fan of hip hop/R&B/creative music you should give him a listen. I think everyone that knows me is always surprised when they find out how much of a hip-hop fan I am but I have a very eclectic taste in music. I saw Donald Glover/Childish Gambino in concert in the spring and have been rocking both of his albums hard for months. Not only is he a great artist, he’s smart and that shines through in his music. I also relate a lot to how he seemed to feel so different from everyone growing up and I also love how honest his lyrics feel. When he talks about girls sometimes I just want to give him a hug.
Definitely give it a listen and let me know if you like it! And hopefully you’re having a fabulous Friday too.
Instead of a post HERE today, I’ve written a guest post over at Design Wonderland while Jessica adjusts to her new life in New York City. I’m talking about my summer essentials and it’s an interesting mix of 5 products I absolutely adore right now. So hop on over to Design Wonderland to leave comments!
I love Fridays but this one is bittersweet for me.
You all have heard me mention my beloved BFF Jessica of Design Wonderland on this blog a lot. In my house she’s referred to as a sisterwife because we’re always together. Jess was my college roommate (the best one I ever had) and after college we’ve been together ever since. She’s also the only friend that I’ve NEVER had an argument with – and if you deal with me daily that’s saying a lot.
Well today is sad because she’s making moves and leaving DC/Maryland and moving to NYC tomorrow. I am so excited and happy for her new adventure, for her fabulous new job and for finally being flooded with wonderful opportunities and recognition for how wonderful she is (like I’ve always told her). On the opposite end, my heart is heavy because my lunch buddy, eternal plus 1, tea time partner and more is moving away. At least she’ll always be a bus/train/car ride away and now I really have a place I know I can stay without ever having to ask.
Jessica always says that I encourage her to dream bigger but she always encourages me to dream in full color. She fills my life with creativity, magic and a lot of love and I will miss getting to see her whenever I want. But that just means lots of trips to NYC in my future.
I know that she will make New York her home, that she will shine just as brightly there as she does here and that things will only be better every day. I know that she will be a success. I know that we will always be the best of friends.
