Shop Suey Society | The Elizabeth Necklace

Green Summer Chic
It’s time for another installment of my monthly Shop Suey Boutique accessories review. This month the Shop Suey Society is going with summer chic accessories and I went for the The Elizabeth Necklace.

For me, summer is all about easy and light dressing, so lots of cotton and jersey dresses and sandals. My wardrobe choices when it’s warm are pretty simple but that can also be interpreted as too casual looking. So I try to dress up my dresses with great accessories. One of my favorite accessories for summer are fun statement necklaces and I though that the Elizabeth necklace was right up my alley.

Multiple green stones and hammered gold tone discs give it a lot of interest and great texture. I also love the two tiered look of the necklace too – I like to make a statement folks so I try to get multiple layers or big chunky pieces. The necklace is light and pretty and very feminine and it went perfectly with one of my favorite wrap dresses for summer (that you’ve seen previously paired with another statement necklace). And despite everyone’s complaints about the heat and humidity, I’m soaking it all in. I’d much prefer this over the 3 back to back blizzards we had a few years ago.

Don’t forget, with the code ART20 you get 20% off of your full priced items at Shop Suey Boutique – which isn’t bad since the Elizabeth Necklaces is only $28! Don’t forget to check out Shop Suey Boutique’s blog, on Facebook and on Twitter.

How to Accessorize | Stripes & Brights

Stripes & Brights
There are 2 brands that I’m in love with right now in this outfit post. Let me start with the most obvious (and bright), my day glow yellow leather satchel, courtesy of the Leather Satchel Co in London. A timeless classic shape but in a totally nontraditional color. I picked the day glow yellow (of course I went vividly bright) but there is of course a rainbow of colors of this bag – and don’t worry I’ll do a full review once their Amazon.com store in the US is up and running. I decided not to build outfits around the neon but to see how well I could incorporate the neon into my already existing wardrobe. I think it settles right in and I plan on doing some contrasting with bright blues and even wearing neon with neon!

The second brand I love is Lands’ End Canvas – I mentioned them the other day. I picked up this Heritage Boatneck Sailor tee in navy and ivory along with a cardigan the other week to replace 2 pieces I wore to death. Quick shipping, there always seems to be a sale on what I already consider a great price, the fit is great AND I came home yesterday to a handwritten thank you note from their Customer Service team. That was the cherry on top of my sundae (and I do love those cherries on top of sundaes). I’ll definitely be purchasing more items from their site and soon! I’m also quite in love with my Target sandals and got lots of compliments on them on the street. They’re super comfy and a great price! It’s a simple outfit but probably one of my favorites this week.

Shop Suey Society | Olivia Scarf

You all know I love a bargain. I shop at TJ Maxx and Marshalls religiously. I don’t buy things that aren’t on sale unless they’re heart palpitation inducing. I don’t think that you have to spend a million bucks in order to have style, that’s one of the main reasons why I participate in the Shop Suey Society. I think they offer great accessories that are on trend and fun but at amazingly good prices – my kind of online shopping. Plus with code Art20 you get an extra 20% off of full priced items!

This month all of the Shop Suey Society Members are reviewing accessories priced at $25 and under to really make your wardrobe pop. My pick is the Olivia Scarf for $18!
Weekend Wear

Here’s why I love the Olivia:

  • The print is a great boho/tribal print but in shades of blue, which makes it great with neutrals or as a contrasting piece for yellow or orange.
  • It has pom poms. I don’t know why but I think the pom pom fringe around the edge just makes it extra cute.
  • It’s great for Mother Nature’s crazy weather patterns. The weather here has gone from 80 degrees to 50 degrees in the same day. I’ve been carrying light jackets and wearing scarves so not to be cold.
  • It’s an alternative to a statement necklace. I love pairing this scarf with my neutral outfits when I haven’t really thought about how to make an outfit pop – the scarf does all the work for me.
  • It’s great in a rain shower. I got caught in a storm the other day and used this as my impromptu head cover/umbrella – it kept me dry and cute at the same time.
  • My girlfriend’s daughter shares the same name and they’re both cute as can be.

What is there not to love about Olivia? What’s your favorite inexpensive accessory? Do tell!

Quoted In April 2011 Essence Magazine

April 2011 Essence Magazine Cover
I’ve gotten several emails, text messages and even a comment from a new reader about my quote in Essence magazine. I was asked what was the best purchase that I ever made and then they have someone who gives advice on that purchase and whether or not it was a smart buy. What made the quote even better was that they listed the link to my website! YAY!

So thanks to Essence magazine for the quote, thanks to anyone who is a new reader to the Art of Accessories because of that quote and definitely pick it up and flip to page 126 to see what was my best purchase. I’ll give you a hint…it’s something I’ve talked about on the blog before!
