I finally got the Holiday Guide up and out and it feels like I have a weight lifted off of my shoulders. I take a lot of the pictures, pull all the items, write it, lay it out and publish it for you guys as my holiday gift to you.
I’ve been asked a lot how I blog and do things like the Holiday Guide AND work a full time job. Sometimes I don’t know. Sometimes it is all a blur. Sometimes it’s so much fun to be wrapped up into something so creative I don’t realize how exhausted I am until it’s over! For the first weekend in weeks I have NOTHING planned. I see lots of laundry and house cleaning in my future (my home office is an absolute MESS! Products and notes everywhere). LOL
I again wanted to say thank you to everyone who has tweeted, Facebook’d and emailed me such great comments and feedback (and even alerted me of my typo…which I’m just going to leave in because it’s just too much to do to add an o). I appreciate your support, encouragement and feedback (good and bad). I’m always trying to learn and grow more with every project I take on. And because I am so thankful that you read the Art of Accessories, I’ll have a giveaway next week for an item I starred in the Holiday Guide!
I won’t be posting on Monday, I’m going to the White House for a Holiday Tweet Up! Can someone pinch me? Cause I don’t think that’s really happening but I got an email saying it is and I’ll share lots of pictures of the White House holiday decorations with you guys on Tuesday. I can’t see a better way to get in the holiday spirit than holiday decorations at the White House, right?!
Have a wonderful, wonderful weekend and don’t forget if you’re still stumped for gift ideas you can always email me! I love helping with that kind of stuff.
Last year this time I was in Hilton Head, South Carolina with my family for Thanksgiving. One of the most relaxing and happy Thanksgiving breaks I had had in a long time. This year I’ll be at home with my family again and just relaxing on my own couch (totally will miss the catered Thanksgiving dinner on a screened in porch). I’m not doing black Friday sales or chaos but I will be working on the Gift Guide and will hopefully get that out by December 1 next week!
I am incredibly thankful for you, the readers of the Art of Accessories, my family and close friends. I am happy that I am employed, healthy and incredibly happy. I love this time of year, it reminds us to be thankful and to share gifts with the ones we love. I’ll be enjoying my friends and family for the rest of the week and I hope you’ll do the same.
I had a fantastic weekend in NYC with Jess. We walked all over the city shopping, laughing and hanging out. I didn’t really take pictures of anything with my big camera. I did take a picture at Purl Soho of them winding up the highlighter yellow yarn I purchased.
I cannot wait to make something with it, I have the perfect project for that yarn. YAY! Other than my trip, I’ve been exhausted and burned out so forgive me if I take a few days off from blogging to get some other stuff done in my life. I should be posting again by Friday.
See you soon!
I’ve been working on lots of blog stuff behind the scenes that I’ll start showing next week and then for the Gift Guide but for today, I’m heading off to New York to hang out with Jess in her new place. I am pretty sure I will be exhausted on Monday after a long weekend of running around the city with my BFF but it will be totally fun and worth it.
Have a great weekend everyone! See you next week.

My heart was heavy as soon as I got a text message last night saying Steve Jobs had passed away. I’ve never met Mr. Jobs but his work has influenced my life in so many ways. I am a Mac, most definitely.
I always thought of him as a modern day Willy Wonka because growing up I always thought that was the best kind of person you could be. I especially loved the AT&T commercial with ‘Pure Imagination’ as the theme.
“Come with me. And you’ll be in a world of pure imagination. Take a look. And you’ll see into your imagination. We’ll begin with a spin. Traveling in the world of my creation. What we’ll see will defy explanation.”
I love reading about things Steve Jobs has said, his speeches, his wonderful quotes. Things about living your life, not someone else’s or living as if you know you will die tomorrow so that you live to the fullest.
Steve Jobs ultimately died due to a long fight with pancreatic cancer. That of course makes me think of my own father and how lucky I am that his pancreatic cancer was found early and caught before it could spread. And since my Dad was first diagnosed I’ve changed my thought patterns and tried to live in a more positive and grateful space, every day. I’m not saying I’m always successful at doing it or that I don’t have bad days or doubt myself, but for the most part I am so happy to be alive and I am so happy to only pursue the things that I love.
Not everyone is as lucky as my Dad or even as lucky to live as long as Steve Jobs did with pancreatic cancer and that makes me want everyone to really think about giving in some way to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. In 2012 my husband is going to run a marathon and raise money for PanCan and I couldn’t be prouder or more happy to support him with his running and fundraising. Every little bit helps.
Regardless of what your cause is, take a moment today to thanks Steve Jobs for that iPhone/iPad/MacBook/iPod in your hands and then tell someone you love how much you love them today. And live like tomorrow might be your last.
There is a really crisp chill in the air this morning in DC, I could have worn a jacket on top of my cardigan this morning. And last night at 7:30pm it was dark outside. Ugh…summer is leaving me (hence the picture of my favorite Betsey Johnson sunglasses above).
As the weather is getting colder I’m starting to think about the Gift Guide and what I want to do or if I’m planning on doing it again this year. I’ve got a lot of projects and ideas buzzing around in my head right now and it would help if I could get your opinions, comments, suggestions.
Please comment below this post or email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) what you want to see in a Gift Guide, if you want the Gift Guide to return, what you liked or didn’t like about previous issues, etc. I need to know so that I can get to work on what is coming up next.
And thanks everyone in your patience with my not so normal posting, I’m just trying to work out a lot of things on the back end that I hope you will all enjoy.
