bareMinerals Remix Collection

bareMinerals has a limited edition Remix Collection that hit the shelves in January and I hadn’t posted anything about it. They sent me pieces of the collection a while back and I’ve just been holding on to them and telling folks everything I love without actually sharing it with you. I’m sorry.

First, can I say that I love the blue packaging? It stands out in my makeup drawers and I just love color. the Remix collection is about bright bold color but in sheer, high gloss and wearable form.

There are two new Read Eyeshadow 4.0 palettes. This one is The Next Big Thing and has a gold, copper, peach and a smokey plum color. This isn’t my kind of color combo but I think it appeals to a lot of other folks senses.
Untitled
Of course you know I love the more vivid color palette that comes with The Wild Thing! A shimmery aqua, a bright chartreuse green, a shimmery bronze and a deep blue – I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE this color palette.

They’ve also added three Loud & Clear Lip Sheers in Berry Remix (a sheer purple), Amped Pink (my favorite) and Tangerine Trance (a sheer orange). I can actually see myself swiping these on all summer long. I love the texture, smooth and creamy with a great glossy finish.

One of the stars of this collection for me is the Ready Blush in the Natural High and it’s already sold out online. You NEED to go to the store to pick this one up, why? You know how normal people only have one blush? Well I have about 25 in my beauty arsenal and I’ve never understood how people could just wear one blush until I tried Natural High. This is a gorgeous, universally flattering shade for a variety of skin tones that has the right balance of shimmer and color. It’s a mix between pink and orange and that just leaves my cheeks glowing and I can’t seem to stop picking this one up. There are two other items in this collection that I tried and didn’t take pictures of but definitely think are also the stars of this collection: the Bronzing Mineral Veil has been a favorite of mine since it was in another limited edition collection. I had gotten down to the bottom of the container of it and then this arrived on my doorsteps. I love this stuff. I also love any mascara from the Bare Escentuals folks (hello, Buxom!) and they have a limited edition Flawless Definition Mascara in Aqua (and in black for those that aren’t as obsessed with blue mascara as I am). I love this stuff and need to take pictures so you can see the vivid color. This remix collection is the bee’s knees. It’s definitely a favorite release of mine and I think you will love it too. Have you tried it? Picked anything up? Drooling over it now? Tell me!

Lipstick Obsessed | Maybelline ColorSensational Vivid Lipsticks

Untitled
I’m a HUGE fan of bold lips right now. HUGE! Sometimes all you need to make a bold statement or to have a big beauty impact is a strong flash of lip color and some mascara. I’ve had a few bold lip favorites lip MAC’s Ruby Woo but I also like drugstore brands that can give you the same concentrated lip colors but at a lower price point. I was super excited and ran out to find the new Maybelline ColorSensational lipsticks in the Vivids.

I picked up (from top to bottom) Vibrant Madarin, Wild Rose (my favorite) and Brazen Berry. I’ve been a fan of the ColorSensational line for a while and love the creaminess of the colors and the staying power. The fact that it’s now super powered full of vibrant color in a collection really makes me happy. Wild Rose is a gorgeously perfect hot pink that has become a staple in my makeup bag. I have a feeling Vibrant Madarin will be my summer go to bright orange lip and Brazen Berry is a very unique purple/vivid mauve shade that is suprisingly versatile. Have any of you picked up the Vivids? What do you think?

What Makes Me Happy

Untitled
I am enjoying 2013. In 2012 my goal was to stop being so overloaded with obligations and running around every day and to actually do things that I wanted to do, that I’d enjoy doing and doing things with the people that I love. 2012 was great. I spent a ton of time with my wonderful godsons, family and close friends. I had weekends were my husband and I could just leisurely hang out and do nothing in our pajamas all day because that’s what we wanted to do. I felt much more rested and happy. That’s also how I started to knit a lot, it is incredibly soothing and relaxing for me when work can be so hectic. I’ve been keeping this lifestyle change up in 2013 and I’ve continued to knit. You saw everything I made for the holidays and if you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen even more stuff in my feed. I like knitting because it’s relaxing, a good creative outlet and at the end of a project I’ve created something special for someone. The best part? When someone loves something I’ve made them.
Steven and the hat
Yesterday I got one of the best pictures, my close friend Steven got my very, very belated birthday gift in the mail. In October when I saw him he asked me if I’d knit him a hat. I could pick whatever color and he gave me an example of the kind of hat that he wanted. I of course got overloaded and didn’t get to his hat until after the holidays and I finally mailed it to him this week. He told me he hadn’t taken it off since he took it out of the package…and then he asked me to make another one for his friend in a different color. When I said I was happy that he liked it he corrected me and said, “no, I love it.” It’s a small thing but when someone loves something that you’ve made them and it makes them happy it makes me feel so good. His comment truly makes my heart sing and I’m sure I’ll be knitting and smiling all weekend. I hope you have a happy weekend too!

Chevron Sweetness

Yesterday my girlfriend gave birth to a very precious baby girl, Sophie. Since this was her second baby instead of a baby shower we threw her a little lunch with friends and gave smaller gifts. I knit her a chevron strip baby blanket (her toddler son was the recipient of the first baby blanket I ever knit!) with the colors she requested: pink, green and white and I added a smaller multi-colored stripe to the palette too.
Untitled
I love, love, love knitting baby blankets. Knowing they are keeping someone so precious and tiny snuggly and warm just makes me feel so good. I love it when I see a picture of the baby with the blanket, or when the moms tell me they got compliments while they were out on the blanket too.
Untitled
I was challenged with this pattern to use two strands of yarn to knit up a bulkier blanket, I figured if she’s a January baby as cold as it has been she might need the double knit blanket. It was so soft (I used Caron Soft Yarn) that I am tempted to knit one for myself in the future. I plan on knitting this one up again in the next week for a friend’s prematurely born baby boy. The Dad is a huge Brooklyn Nets fan so I’m going with a black, white and grey palette. Now I just need a new baby girl so I can do something bold and fun with pink, orange and yellow! Stay warm this weekend!

3 Things | Macaroons, Cute Babies & Lipstick

Happy Tuesday! I had such a great long weekend (despite my husband getting a nasty head cold and acting as if it was the plague) so I thought I’d share three good things. I work in DC but live in the Maryland suburbs so I decided to stay in for the inauguration and not battle the crowds or the cold.
I'm ready for the inauguration with my Obama macaroons!
I was prepared though with Obama macaroons from The Sweet Lobby and my husband and I watched the inauguration in bed with chocolate chip pancakes and turkey bacon. YUM!
Jax 6 months
Speaking of eating, why is it not acceptable for me to make this much of a mess when I’m eating and yet it’s so adorable on my godson? I take a monthly photo of him for my girlfriend so we can track his progress through the first year and it’s always so much fun. When I got to her house on Sunday it was naked feeding time and he had oatmeal and fruit everywhere, hence why nakedness was mandatory during his feeding.
UntitledUntitled
And my latest random drugstore buy that I love, Rimmel Lond Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick. It’s got a matte finish with deeply saturated color. I picked up this deep berry, almost red shade. I’m trying to broaden my bold lipstick horizons and try darker colors. I like the finish and the slight sent to this one so we’ll just have to see if it really lasts, I’ll let you know. So those are my three good things, what’s something good going on with you?

Stay Warm!

Untitled
I love a good hat so this fall I decided I needed to face my knitting fears and finally knit up a hat. Turns out, they’re pretty easy and quick. I knit up quite a few scarves for the holidays and I found a few simple hats to throw in there as well. My husband wanted a hat to go with the scarf I made him and I wanted him to be warm so I decided to find a new pattern to challenge my hat making skills.
Untitled
On Ravelry I found and purchased the pattern for the Helm hat, a men’s hat with a subtle ear flap to keep him nice and warm. It has cables (which really aren’t that hard once you get the hang of them) and I really do love how the ear flaps turned out. Not too childish looking (although my husband admitted he wouldn’t mind a hat with full on ear flaps and a tie for under the chin…).
Untitled
The hat was so cute that I almost wanted to keep it for myself but then I saw him in and saw how much he liked it and how cute he was so I let him keep it. And then I decided I might need to make it for myself in a different color with a big pom pom on the top 🙂 I mean if I know how to make it I might as well benefit from my own skills, right? Stay warm!
