I get asked a lot of questions, so I thought I’d give some answers to a few of my most frequently asked questions:

How did The Art of Accessories start?
The AofA began as a project for a class I was taking while getting my master’s degree at GWU. I had to create a website and it could include a blog component, so I decided to write about what I talked about with my girlfriends all the time: shoes, handbags, jewelry and makeup – accessories! When the class ended I had a larger audience reading than just my friends and family, so I decided to keep it going.

Do you get all of your products for free? Do you own everything you blog about?
Some companies do send me free items to review (and I have the right to write whatever I want about the product or to not write about the stuff I don’t like at all) and I identify that in my posts. Most beauty products I buy (because I’m a beauty junkie) if I haven’t received them as a preview for a review. Some items like handbags and shoes I just see and think are fabulous and choose to share. I don’t own everything that I blog about, but I do usually own and test the makeup and nail polish you see on the site.

Do you feel pressure to look good everyday because of the blog?
This is a question that I’ve been asked a lot and the first time someone asked me I was taken a bit off guard. What I wear on a daily basis is who I am. I love being a girl, I love dressing up and I looooooove putting on makeup. If I know I’m going to an event I do try to look my best (I’ve had readers come up to me at events before so I don’t want to look a hot mess while I’m out) but I practice what I blog about and I believe in looking good for yourself. When I’ve put in the effort, it puts me in a good mood.

What are your favorite things you’ve blogged about?
I’ve talked about a lot of things on this blog but there are a few stand outs that I’m always going to love:

Where are you?
I live in a Maryland suburb right outside of Washington, DC. I work in DC and I go to NYC a lot because of the blog and my in-laws.
