Checking In

I can only stay away for so long before I feel guilty about my radio silence. So here’s what’s been happening the last two weeks…
Orlando rain.
We went to Orlando for a wedding. It’s crazy how hot Orlando is and then it seems to constantly be in threat of crazy rainstorms.

While we were in Orlando we figured we needed to take advantage of the fact that we were so close to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. As much as my husband and I both loved the books we had to taste a butter beer and sees Hogwarts castle up close and personal – it was fun…and then it poured rain on us unexpectedly. Oh Orlando.
Cooking up simple syrup for coffee and tea today. Mint, vanilla and a big batch of sugar in the raw. Makes beverages so much better.
I’ve also been obsessed with making simple syrups for our coffee this summer. My favorite is to make mint and use it in iced lattes. I love how cool and refreshing it is and so simple. Equal parts sugar and water, boil and then put in an air tight container! Add mint to it while it’s simmering or if you want to make vanilla, add vanilla beans to your mix while it cooks. It’s so yummy.
Last night's power outage had us doing everything by candlelight. Irritating and yet a little romantic. #latergram
And because it is summer and because the weather is so unpredictable I’ve already had my first power outage of the season. No worries, I played Candy Crush (I’m addicted) by candle light and then read a book. I’m a trooper! Next up on my list, buying paint and getting started on my updated living room!

Green

In my happy place, surrounded by color. Going to repaint the house this summer!
I’ve been unusually quiet here on the blog lately but 1. I haven’t had much that I’ve felt like writing about 2. I’m working on things for myself. Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of of beauty things I could talk about (I’ve been obsessed with the new formulas of Milani lipsticks and in deep love with Bite Beauty matte lipsticks) but that would require me taking photographs and making an effort to blog – and I just don’t want to do that right now. I’ve got travel for weddings, new babies to visit and projects all around my house that I need to begin (going to redo the entire house this summer). Eventually I will begin to pick my camera back up and snap pics and share with you guys but for now you may not see much at all.

10 Years & Counting

Johnson's
Someone once told me that when you find the person you are meant to spend the rest of your life with you’ll know it, a moment will present itself. My moment was presented to me 13 years ago on Saturday, May 13, 2000. My friend of 4 years caught me by surprise and kissed me for the first time. He even said to me, “when are you going to realize I’m the man you’re supposed to marry.” In that moment, in that kiss I knew I would spend the rest of my life with him. In that moment I saw a life full of love, hope and possibility with just that man. Three years after that first kiss, 10 years ago today we got married and sealed our lives together with another kiss full of love, hope and even more possibility.
Ten years and counting
I’m so very lucky to have found the love of my life so early. Through thick and thin, in sickness and in health over the last ten years my husband has truly shown me what it means to be partners in life. People ask us a lot why we seem so happy or what’s our secret.  All I know is every day I try to tell him/show him that I love him. Every day there is laughter in my life. Every day I’m so thankful to wake up next to him. Every day I’m not afraid to give love or accept love. Every day I’m with him I know I become a better version of myself. There’s no secret, every day isn’t perfect but I know every day I wouldn’t want to be with anyone other than him. Happy anniversary, my love.

Weekend Reading

Three cheers to the weekend! Oh this has been a week of no sleep and back pain but my new mattress arrived, my snoring husband is away for the weekend and I will probably have some of the best sleep of my life. Can you see how excited I am to have a new bed all to myself? LOL Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy I just wish his nose loved me and would stop snoring. So what am I getting into this weekend while the husband is away? Three new books that I downloaded!

First on my list, even though I’m not a parent in the traditional sense (I’ve been told I’m the best godmother on planet earth though) I am obsessed with the Honest Toddler. First as a silly twitter feed, then a hilarious blog and now a book! Oh I’ve already started reading it and am actually highlighting the funny parts…which is all of it. If you need a good laugh about life from the perspective of a toddler I highly recommend picking up The Honest Toddler A Child’s Guide to Parenting.
Weekend reading
Next up on my list is something I think the Honest Toddler would appreciate, Crackers & Dips More than 50 Handmade Snacks. The cover made me drool and I’ve seen lots of recipes on how to make your own cheese crackers and what not so I want to give this a spin. When I have the time (and energy) to really cook I go hard and I prefer making as much as I can instead of buying processed foods. It always tastes better, is healthier and you know everything in it! I’m kind of excited to try out the Ritz cracker recipe they have in there first! I’ll let you know how it goes.
Weekend reading
And last but not least on my list, Dan Brown’s Inferno!! Remember when I found the golden ticket and won an autographed copy of Lost Symbol? Yeah, I’m a big Dan Brown novel fan. I event went on the Angels & Demons tour with my family in Rome and have toured DC monuments just because of his books. I’m a fan. So I’m ready to get wrapped up in the mystery and excitement that Dan Brown always brings. So that’s my latest purchase folks, books. Anything else I should be adding to my list anytime soon?

Statue Quest | Navy-Merchant Marine Memorial

Untitled
Can we talk about the gorgeousness that is the Navy-Merchant Marine Memorial? My husband is a runner and runs a lot of trails around the area and he saw this memorial in Lady Bird Johnson Park but didn’t know what it was for so we decided to stop to check this one off on our statue quest.
Untitled
This memorial honors the American sailors and marines killed at sea during World War I and was completed in 1934.
Untitled
It’s a memorial that’s off the beaten path for me but so unexpectedly beautiful. I also loved all of the red tulips surrounding the memorial.

I couldn’t find much online about the memorial but it was definitely a beautiful gem off of the GW Parkway.

#MoxieUp | New Bare Escentuals Moxie Lipsticks, Glosses & Liners

Items in this post were provided for review, opinions are all mine.
#MoxieUp
The folks at Bare Escentuals are introducing us to Moxie lipsticks (18), liners (10) and lipglosses (14). I already owned the lipgloss in Sparkplug (a shimmery nude) that I picked up a while back and has been a staple in my purse but they sent over 4 of each in a range of shades for me to share with you.
MoxieUp
I was sent for review in lipsticks: Light It Up (medium coral creme), Risk It All (hot pink creme), Lead the Way (a deep berry creme) and Stand Out (a medium brown creme, nude on me). These lipsticks are super moisturizing, leave a gorgeous stain on the lips and fade nicely. They wear beautifully for a few hours but as with any lipstick once you start to really eat food they will wear off. I do love how nicely they leave a stain on the lips.
MoxieUp
I also like the cases on these, they have a little silver button that you push to release the cap from the tube. It took a bit of getting used to but it’s a cute little packaging idea.
MoxieUp
The glosses I was sent for review were: Maverick (dark nude with shimmer), Smooth Talker (a pink gloss with gold shimmer), Game Changer (red with just a hint of sparkle to it) and Trail Blazer (light shimmery nude).
MoxieUp
This is me rocking Game Changer, I am not a huge red lip gloss fan but I do love the formula of the Moxie glosses. They have a mild scent to them and they’re not sticky or tacky at all – LOVE! They give a good gloss to your lips and they are actually a bit moisturizing. I love when I can slick on a lip product without any lip balm at all.
MoxieUp
I was also sent lip liners for review: Jazzed (hot pink), Electrified (deep berry), Energized (coral) and Revved (a darker nude). The liners are creamy, give great color and I think are a nice under layer to the lipgloss. I find that if you apply liner and then gloss it will last a bit longer. They also have their own sharpeners as well – super convenient.

All in all, I have to say I love all of the Moxie items an I definitely will be picking up more shades! There’s a lavender creme that is calling my name! I see a stop to Sephora in my future. Have you seen Moxie yet? Anything you’re interested in trying?
